Balloon Boy Drama
The only thing that I hate about this whole mess is that it hates on the scientific community. Just because someone is into science, or UFO’s for that matter, does not make them an idiot. I wish the press would get back to talking about Kanye West’s glasses and off this crap.

It’s not the being into science that hurts the world of science, it’s the laymen who confuse a reputed “interest in science” with being a scientist. Science amateurs can be very well versed in the scientific process and data and can be freakin’ brilliant; however, it’s hardly assured. Just because you’re interested in science doesn’t mean you are (a) smart or (b) know jack about actual science. “Science” in the mainstream media is far and away different than the real stuff.
Unfortunately, when someone who is interested in science does something stupid, many a regular person thinks, at best, that science dabblers must all be stupid, ignorant and in it for the glory (in it for the glory?!?) and, at worst, confuses the sorts of yahoos that camera time with “real” scientists.
It’s hard for someone like me to watch channels like the science channel, largely because so much is dramatized that the “scientists” on screen either look like wackos or like they’re patronizing people. I love science, but what’s on half these shows is no more science that the family-based reality shows are indicative of family life.
Also, for some reason all Today.com blogs are inaccessible to me from Mozilla (which I nominally use) so it is very hard for me to keep up with your blog.
I know what you mean.
I can’t figure out what the problem is with firefox, though..I can see today fine..weird!
Hope you’re doing ok!
