Talk About an Early Adopter!!!
From way back in the 1920’s this is the world’s first personal portable navigation system.
You could wear the Plus Fours Routefinder on your wrist like a watch. Made for drivers in the UK, the scrolls show the mileage from city to city and even say “stop” when you come to the end of your journey.
Since there weren’t that many cars in the 20’s this device sort of faded away…it’s a shame though. I’d love to get my hands on one.
This, along with other fancy technological gadgets, can be found at the British Library in London.
I wish I had one of these. I have to drive my 76 year old mother to Little Rock, Arkansas this Monday for a concert. She asked me if the GPS on my blackberry worked. I told her that I didn’t need it. She then asked me, “well how are you going to find the arena?!”
Damn, mom, I DO know how to read a map. I also know how to find an address and directions on Yahoo. Geez!

I love things like this, like fully mechanical calculators.
LOL..my mom has come a long, long way as far as computers go. She learned about GPS from her sister and the TV commercials. She just discovered Google about a month ago and she is driving me crazy with it.
