The End of the World?

Published by thegreenninja at 11:24 pm under Articles, Science Edit This

Hadron ColliderI love it when those in charge of a science experiment say, “Well, it might create a black hole, but we should be OK.”  Even Stephen Hawking bet a hundred dollars that the experiment would not be successful in finding the elusive particle they were looking for.

The Large Hadron Collider was switched on Wednesday accelerating sub atomic particles nearly to the speed of light and then smashing them together.

Hawkins said, “I think it will be much more exciting if we don’t find the Higgs (particle). That will show something is wrong, and we need to think again.”

Since the collider has been turned on, obviously, the world has not been destroyed.  The particle smashing will not begin for another month, though.  I love how the geek internets have picked up on this story.  Thankfully, madness and panic has not ensued.

Clicking the link below will tell you all you need to know about the Hadron Collider.

Has the Large Hadron Collider Destroyed the World Yet?
